Financial Accountability

The VNFC receives program and administration funding from a variety of federal, provincial and Aboriginal organizations as well as businesses, corporations, charitable foundations and individuals. The VNFC administers in excess of $2.5 million annually. Financial structures, policies and procedures are in place to ensure that monies are spent and accounted for in an appropriate fashion.

Financial checks and balances include:

  • Managers approve all funding requests and cheque requisitions
  • Executive Director approves all disbursements
  • VNFC Treasurer approves all disbursements
  • Finance Manager and/or Finance Assistant processes all disbursements
  • VNFC Finance Committee is responsible to the Board of Directors for all financial transactions and for submissions of monthly financial reports
  • Reporting mechanisms are in place to ensure that funding agencies receive monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements
  • VNFC conducts an annual audit and the results are presented at an Annual General Meeting

Organizational Facts

The Victoria Native Friendship Centre is a not-for-profit organization that values the partnership of communities. Donors have the options of sponsoring an entire Department of programs and services at the VNFC, or sponsoring one specific area of programming. For example, an agency may decide to support youth initiatives or health-related programs that reflect an agencies personal agenda.  No donation is too small.
