Aboriginal Nations Education Liaison
The Liason
WILL ACT AS AN ADVOCATE AND A
LIAISON BETWEEN THE GREATER VICTORIA SCHOOL DISTRICT, TEACHERS ,
ADMINISTRATORS, COMMUNITY AGENCIES .AND FOR ALL ABORIGINAL NATIONS
STUDENTS, PARENTS AND GUARDIANS.
- The liaison will assist and advise families on educational, social and school issues.
- The liaison will facilitate the relationship between the home and the school environment.
- The liaison will direct and assist students and their families to access the school, community and government resources that support the pursuit of educational and career goals.
- The liaison will
provide a range of formal and informal interventions and support
services to Aboriginal students and families in the inner city.
Educational Support
The Liaison is able to:- Provide a forum for focus groups and information sharing for parents and the community through parenting circles and focus sessions on education.
- Provide academic tutors for students in groups, or one-on-one.
- Facilitate workshops in the school system with parents regarding their role of advocacy for their children.
The Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement
The A.E.E.A will enhance a learning environment where Aboriginal students feel safe, respected and have a positive sense of place and belonging.The Goals
- Goal 1: To increase Aboriginal students’ sense of place, of caring, and of belonging in the public school system.
- Goal 2: We will honour and improve relationships between the Greater Victoria School District and the Aboriginal community and parents.
- Goal 3: To increase awareness and understanding of aboriginal history, traditions and culture.
- Goal 4: To increase the success of all Aboriginal students.
