Cedar House Proposed client group for Cedar House.

The proposed client group for Cedar House is Aboriginal youth 16 - 18 years of age.  These youth will be aging out of care on their 19th birthday.  The youth will have a plan in place and working towards their goals.  Cedar House will be a home in which our young people have an opportunity to pursue their future in a supportive and culturally appropriate environment.

Cedar House staff have a strong commitment to promoting wellness, self-reliance and independence in our Aboriginal community.

Program Description 

Cedar House is a licensed 24 hour group home resource for Aboriginal youth aged 16 – 18 years of age.  Our funding body is the Ministry for Children and Family Development (MCFD).  Cedar House has the capacity to serve six youth and is a co-educational program.

Aboriginal agencies including, but not limited to:

  • the Victoria Native Friendship Centre,
  • Surrounded by Cedar,
  • Nil’tuo, and the
  • Ministry for Children and Family Development
Ministry for Children and Family Development will utilize the cedar House resource as a long-term placement as the House can accept your for periods of 2 years in length.

This program takes a broad range of referrals and may include youth with;
  • Mental disorders, including, but not limited to;
  • Attention Deficit Disorder,
  • Disruptive Behavior Disorder,
  • Attachment difficulties
Cedar House for Aboriginal youth believes that there is a strong need for our community to provide a unique home environment for our Aboriginal youth.  Our program is:

  • Family oriented
  • Community based
  • Safe
  • And non-judgmental
The program focuses on the four areas of the medicine wheel:
  • Emotional
  • Mental
  • Physical
  • Spiritual
The medicine wheel is used in Aboriginal communities to promote wellness, a holistic balance and healthy living.  The wheel has no beginning, no end and is always in motion to meet the changing needs of each individual.
