Siem Lelum (Respected House)
In partnership with the Board of the Capital Regional District (CRD), a $500,000 grant was awarded by the Regional Housing
Trust Fund (RHTF) to the Victoria Native Friendship Centre (VNFC) for the development and construction of 39 units of affordable family housing at the former Travellers Inn site located at 120 Gorge Rd. The City of Victoria, who purchased the site in July 2010, has partnered with the VNFC to offer quality, low cost housing with support services to the Aboriginal community. VNFC will enter into an operating agreement with the City of Victoria to undertake the redevelopment and operations of the facility as a low-cost residential housing project, "Siem Lelum” (Respected House). The project will have support services covered under a funding agreement with the provincial Ministry of Children and Family Development.
